How long have you been volunteering with MVLS?

I have been volunteering at MVLS for two months.

Why did you decide to get involved with MVLS? What was your motivation for volunteering?

I decided to volunteer at MVLS to gain practical legal knowledge whilst studying my JD at university. Another factor which motivated me to volunteer at MVLS is contributing to helping members of my community with their legal issues and helping them find a solution.

What do you like to do outside of volunteering?

Outside of volunteering I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I also am into studying, playing and watching sports.

What is your favourite thing about volunteering?

Sitting in with the lawyers when they deal with their clients and getting a first-hand experience of the interaction between the lawyer and the client. Also, receiving advice from the lawyers on how to deal with different circumstances.

What has surprised you in your role?

What had surprised me most about the role is the responsibilities that the volunteers have in the office and how much we contribute to MVLS. The support provided by the staff at  MVLS is also extremely helpful, allowing for the volunteers to quickly settle in and feel comfortable to ask for help when required.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about volunteering with MVLS?

It’s an opportunity not worth missing. Volunteering with the MVLS is exceptionally beneficial for an individual who would like to develop skills working in a legal and team environment. MVLS helps you appreciate giving back to the community whilst also gaining knowledge from and working with practising lawyers.
